MY FAVORITE THINGS: DRIES VAN NOTEN MAXI JUMPER//

TARA VASEV
E-COMMERCE DIRECTOR/MERCHANDISING ASSISTANT, ALEXANDER WANG
“WATCHING THE DRIES VAN NOTEN FALL 2009 SHOW, I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS TRANSPORTED TO EDINBURGH’S DEAN VILLAGE. THERE WAS SOMETHING PROFOUNDLY THERAPEUTIC ABOUT THE COLOR SCHEME, SIMPLICITY, AND UNDERSTATED PURITY OF THE COLLECTION: LIKE A ROTHKO MULTIFORM PAINTING. MY FAVORITE PIECE IN THE COLLECTION WAS THE WOOL/MOHAIR BLEND JUMPER. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING PRACTICAL ABOUT IT AND IT IS PUNISHINGLY HEAVY AND THE MOHAIR SHEDS ALL OVER MY FOOD AND CLOTHES. YET, IT REMAINS AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS. PERHAPS BECAUSE IT INSTILLS A FEELING OF SERENITY AND NOSTALGIA, REMINDING ME OF THE DAYS WHEN MY IDEA OF FUN WAS JUMPING INTO A PILE OF AUTUMN LEAVES. IT IS THOSE COLORS, THE BURNT ORANGE OF AUTUMN LEAVES AND THE SHRIMP PINK OF MY MOTHER’S SUITS, THAT REMIND ME OF A SIMPLE TIME.”

It’s huge, it’s fluffle and although my initial instict is that it is ugly, I somehow find myself wanting it. How could anybody ever be cold again if they have one of these?

Crushing on this jumper, the only maxiloose I get belongs to my mother (grrr), whish could pay one like that one day. Excellent blog au passage.

I like the color but I think that the shape makes it a bit hard to wear. But I would definitely try it. Wonder if you could belt it too? I just bought two awesome dries sweaters with huge dolman sleeves and a zip front. Loved the black so much that I got gray too.

The colour is nice, but I really do not like mohair. I’m with Alexander McQueen (I think it was) who said ‘mohair always looks cheap’. The shape is interesting, though.

That wooly jumper looks very itchy. It is an Itchy-Bitchy Jumper. I am huge Dries Van Noten fan, though.

love these pictures, and what an amazing jumper!!!!
December 20th, 2009 at 11:17 am
beautiful.
but why pay €€€ when you could make it yourself (or ask your mum or grandma to make it) out of lighter and more practical material? just seems stupid in my opinion.
December 20th, 2009 at 11:22 am
downright poetic. she looks great!

So perfect for winter. Yeah the shape could be a bit hard to wear but when it’s freezing outside with mountains of snow all I wanna do is snuggle up in a sweater like that!

December 20th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
love it. i think it’s pretty and cozy.
i have a chloe tunic sweater dress from FW ’08, in a weirdly pretty and flattering brownish-olive hue made from something unusual- i believe it’s yak. the sweater is oversized with pockets, in a cable knit. sounds dreadful and yet, i love it, and long to wear it, should i actually find myself in a chilly climate.
December 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Cozy.

I know what you mean, Tara. Reminds me of Anna Paquin’s clothes in the film Fly Away Home: oversized jumpers worn with short shorts, wellies and a pretty floral, floaty scarf.
